And we’ll concede this album is definitely worthy of a nomination. Besides, Academy members hardly ever choose a foreign work for Best Album although as they say, it’s an honor just to be nominated. So perhaps we should agree to let DiS decide which album is the record of the year and we’ll stop sending dialogue for Yelling Bird. And my bird jokes aren’t too shabby either. See there? I can exaggerate the truth, too. This is an album that pricks your senses, makes you laugh and cry and fall in love all over again. The fellow who writes the indietits comic strip declared it the record of the year several weeks ago, now. So where did all this excitement come from? Well, as is often the case these days, the album was leaked over the internet. Even so, it has been three years since BSS’s last batch of new material. Now, while we still can’t help a smirk when saying Canadian Supergroup out loud, fellow Canucks Arcade Fire, New Pornographers (the other Canadian Supergroup), Stars and so on have given each other the same sort of automatic collective credibility that Seattle did for Northwestern grunge bands in the early 90s. It’s been three years since You Forgot It In People put jaws to the floor and critics first used the phrase "Canadian Supergroup" in a review. Yet, even as a fan of the band, I’m surprised by the amount of buzz this record has generated. OK, maybe not “most widely anticipated” but surely the most anticipated album by ardent music fans. If you’re willing to exclude the largely manufactured hype surrounding the release of Coldplay’s X&Y or Oasis’ Don’t Believe The Truth, then you could argue that the new Broken Social Scene album has been the most widely anticipated record of the year. You are currently browsing the archives for the broken social scene category.'Broken Social Scene' is released in the UK through City Slang on January 30th. But this ain’t Reg’s first rodeo, see Arts & Crafts points out that “Reg has toured as part of the spirited ensemble, The Hidden Cameras, as well as being a guest vocalist with Broken Social Scene, including an appearance at this weekend’s Siren Music Festival, July 19 on Coney Island.” Intriguing, tell me more A&C press release, explain to me further the accolades of this mysterious traveler! According to A&C you’ll also know Reg from his work on that movie about sex, “Previously enjoying success with the 2006 John Cameron Mitchell film, “Short Bus” in which he was featured both with a role in the film as well as on the soundtrack, Gentleman Reg is currently finishing details on his forthcoming full-length album, which will be titled Jet Black“ Who is it this time? Why it’s the albino gentleman pictured above, of course! Aka Gentleman Reg, aka Reg Vermue.

In an unprecedented move, Arts & Crafts has signed someone who is a member of a few of it’s acts at various points in time, to make a solo record! I can’t believe it either! This sort of cross-pollination is unheard of from the Canadian powerhouse label, so you can understand my shock at the news!
